Recognize that God loves us but our sin has separated us from Him.
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Rom. 3:23)

You cannot do enough good things to earn God's forgiveness from sin and God's acceptance.
"For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith, and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast." (Eph. 2:8-9)

Jesus Christ alone can provide forgiveness for sin.
And Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me."      (John 14:6)

Confess, Believe, and Repent in order to be saved.
"If you confess with your mouth "Jesus is Lord", and believe in you heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." (Rom. 10:9)
"Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord..." (Acts 3:19)

Next, follow Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be.  My Father will honor the one who serves me." (John 12:26)
